God’s Plan and Technology

God is working through the tools of the day to accomplish His redemptive plan for mankind.

I posted a blog recently about the truths of technology. We use these nine truths to help young people at Camp Infinity develop a biblical worldview about technology, an increasingly important part of our lives. As technology develops ethical questions arise: Should we try and clone humans? How and where should we utilize renewable resources? What about stem cell research? Young people are the future of developing technology and they need to know how to think biblically about it.

Our first truth of technology is:

God is working through the tools of the day to accomplish His redemptive plan for mankind.

Here are three examples of how God has always used the tools of the day throughout history to accomplish His plan:

  • Roman Empire. During the time of Christ the Roman Empire stretched across much of the known world. They built the famous Roman roads—some of which still exist today—to connect this vast empire and move their troops around. Well, it wasn’t just the Roman troops who used these roads. The early Christians took to the roads with the gospel as they went as “witnesses…to Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth” (Acts 1:8).
  • Internet. It would take much more than one blog to describe even a fraction of the ways the Internet has advanced the cause of the kingdom of God. People who would normally never hear about Christ and His work for them are able to quickly get the good news at their fingertips with a simple Google search. The web allows for Bible translations in dozens of different languages to easily spread around the world, even to areas where the gospel is illegal and the Bible is banned. Bible study tools are available at the touch of a few keys so people can dive deeper into God’s Word.
  • Airplanes. Airplanes, big and small, take missionaries all over the world. The interior of countries with dense jungle, mountain areas, and dangerous rivers were extremely difficult to reach before airplanes. Many missionaries died trying to reach these places or it took them many months of travel and they were never able to return home or receive supplies. Now,both missionaries, supplies, and medical assistance are able to reach even the most remote parts of the earth as we seek to “go therefore and make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28:19a).

By teaching young people how God has used technology throughout history to spread the gospel and accomplish His divine plan, we hope to inspire them to be creative and aware of how they can use technology to share the gospel.
